Crime and missing persons investigations in Mexico and Costa

Overview

In Mexico, an armed attack against agents of the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) in Almoloya de Juárez resulted in the death of federal agent Marco Antonio. During a field operation in San Agustín Altamirano, gunmen opened fire on personnel, leading to a shootout that resulted in the apprehension of three suspects.

In the same region, the Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco collective has challenged the FGR regarding investigations at Rancho Izaguirre in Teuchitlán. The group reported finding bone fragments and charred clothing, which they claim contradicts official stances regarding mass incinerations in the area.

In Costa Rica, the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) conducted a large-scale search operation in Guácimo, Limón, to locate the remains of at least 10 missing persons from the Pococí and Guácimo regions. While specialized canine units searched seven dwellings, the OIJ reported the operation concluded without finding human remains or mass graves, though an AR15 rifle and methamphetamine were seized.
