Crime and police enforcement in Antigua and Barbuda

Overview

Police in Antigua and Barbuda have launched investigations and enforcement operations following a series of violent crimes and illegal weapon seizures.

In early September, authorities investigated two armed robberies occurring within a 24-hour period. One incident involved a masked gunman at a bakery in Herbert’s, while another occurred at a business on Bendals Main Road, where suspects allegedly used a firearm to steal jewelry. These events followed government declarations regarding a tougher stance on firearm-related offenses.

In response to such criminal activity, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda conducted ‘Operation Restore Confidence’. This series of intelligence-led searches and patrols resulted in the arrest of four individuals. During raids at Green Bay Hill and various locations including Briggins and Belmont, officers seized two firearms, ammunition, cannabis, and a flare gun.
