Criminal activity and police arrests in Poland

Overview

Recent reports from various Polish regions detail a series of violent crimes, property offenses, and organized criminal activities resulting in multiple arrests.

In late August, authorities in Jaworzno and Kraków addressed attacks involving young suspects. In Jaworzno, three men were detained following an attempted murder in which a 17-year-old victim was doused in flammable liquid and set on fire. In Kraków, a 17-year-old was apprehended after using pepper spray against three men on the Vistula Boulevards.

Subsequent police operations across the country targeted a range of criminal activities. In Bydgoszcz, a man with a prior criminal record was arrested for using an imitation firearm to threaten passersby and damaging a vehicle. In Nowa Dęba, a suspect faced charges for arson involving waste containers and a shed, alongside threats against witnesses and police.

Law enforcement has also expanded its focus to organized crime and narcotics. In Warsaw, the ‘Orzeł’ group, a Lithuanian gang specializing in stealing Korean-brand vehicles, was dismantled following the arrest of two men, including the gang leader, on the A2 highway. In the Będzin and Siewierz regions, five individuals were arrested for home burglaries in Siewierz and Wojkowicach Kościelnych, involving losses of approximately 50,000 PLN in cash and jewelry.

New developments highlight a significant crackdown on narcotics and dangerous driving. In Nowy Sącz, prosecutors charged four individuals with over 300 offenses related to the illegal trade of opioids and benzodiazepines, including money laundering. Road safety concerns have also escalated following multiple incidents of driving under the influence, including a driver reaching 220 km/h while intoxicated and a tractor driver carrying a 10-year-old child while significantly impaired. Additional property crimes include the theft of electrical and gym equipment from a warehouse in Rzeszów.
