Criminal and terrorism investigations in Skopje

Overview

In late September 2026, North Macedonian security forces conducted a coordinated operation in Skopje to dismantle a terrorist cell linked to ISIS. The raids, which targeted 12 locations including Singelić, Čair, and Brest, resulted in the arrest of five individuals. Authorities seized automatic rifles, a sniper rifle, pistols, ammunition, tactical gear, and propaganda materials. One suspect, a 34-year-old man, is accused of indoctrinating youth with extremist propaganda since 2023, while others face charges for illegal weapons trading.

Following this, in early October 2026, the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje launched a separate investigation into a 33-year-old man after a police search of his residence. This operation led to the seizure of an M75 hand grenade, two pistols, and 240 rounds of ammunition, along with marijuana. Investigators also recovered a motorcycle key believed to be linked to a murder investigation. The suspect faces charges involving the unauthorized possession and trade of weapons and explosives, as well as narcotics distribution.
