Overview

Criminal investigations and arrests have been reported across Central America and Mexico involving various violent and exploitative crimes.

In Panama and Guatemala, authorities have detained individuals in connection with homicides, including a femicide in Bocas del Toro and the murder of a woman in Guatemala. In Mexico, reports indicated legal proceedings regarding the attempted kidnapping and human trafficking of migrants in Chihuahua, as well as an arrest in Ciudad Juárez related to a 2023 kidnapping.

Recent operations in Mexico have expanded the scope of enforcement. At the Mexico City International Airport, a joint operation involving the Mexican Navy, the Attorney General's Office, and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection led to the arrest of two individuals: a foreign national wanted for aggravated kidnapping and another detained via INTERPOL coordination for sexual exploitation.

Further enforcement actions targeted drug trafficking and human exploitation in other regions. In Benito Juárez, raids resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of marijuana and cocaine. In Cancún, a coordinated raid on a bar led to the rescue of six women, including five Mexican nationals and one Guatemalan national, suspected victims of human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Authorities noted the victims were targeted due to vulnerabilities such as being single mothers with limited education. Data indicates that Quintana Roo accounts for approximately 47.9% of human trafficking cases in Mexico, with 159 cases reported in the first eight months of 2026.
