Criminal investigations in Germany

German authorities are conducting investigations into several distinct criminal matters involving missing persons and deceased individuals.

In Frankenberg, prosecutors in Marburg have charged a man with attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm following an attack on his father. The suspect, who is currently in custody, allegedly believed his father was withholding information about the whereabouts of his wife, Margarete K., who has been missing since May 2025. Despite large-scale search efforts involving police, firefighters, and over 150 hunters, the 74-year-old woman remains missing.

In Upper Bavaria, investigators are examining the death of a 64-year-old Romanian man whose body was found near the Sylvenstein reservoir. A 59-year-old woman is suspected of transporting the body approximately 100 kilometers from the Ebersberg district to the site where it was discovered. While the death is believed to have been caused by medical issues, police are investigating potential charges of failure to render assistance and are working with Romanian authorities to clarify the circumstances.

In a separate recent development in Marburg, a homicide investigation has been launched following the discovery of a 35-year-old woman’s body in a bush near the Erlenring-Center. The woman had been reported missing on October 20, 2026, after being seen on surveillance footage leaving a shopping center. Authorities discovered the body on October 21 near the Lahn river. Preliminary forensic findings suggest a homicide occurred, with reports indicating the victim may have sustained 19 stab wounds. A homicide task force has been established to reconstruct the events.
