Criminal investigations in Northern Argentina

Overview

Authorities in northern Argentina are conducting separate investigations into suspicious deaths in the provinces of Tucumán and Salta.

In Tucumán, police investigated the death of 35-year-old Judith Nazarena Jerez, who was found dead in her Graneros home with a head injury. Her partner, Pablo Salvador Pitali, was arrested at the scene after reportedly making a spontaneous statement claiming he had committed a ‘grave error’ involving a firearm.

In Salta, the body of 28-year-old Roxana Guiravica was discovered in a wooded area near a landfill in San José de Metán. While an autopsy identified the cause of death as mechanical asphyxia by hanging, prosecutors are maintaining an open investigation into potential homicide. The victim’s family has contested the suicide hypothesis, with her sister stating, ‘I don't believe she took her own life, someone did something to her.’
