Criminal sentencing in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Overview
Legal proceedings in Bosnia and Herzegovina have resulted in significant prison sentences for separate violent crimes.
In one case, the District Court in Istočno Sarajevo sentenced Miloš Abazović to six years in prison for a fatal traffic accident that occurred in March 2024. The court found that Abazović attempted a risky overtaking maneuver while under the influence of cocaine and alcohol, resulting in the death of journalist Goran Maunaga. The court also revoked Abazović’s driver’s license for three years.
In a separate matter, the Supreme Court of Republika Srpska has issued a final verdict upholding a 22-year and three-month sentence for Savo Milošević for the aggravated murder of his wife, Slađana Milošević. The court rejected appeals from both the prosecution and the defense, confirming the original ruling from the Doboj District Court regarding the December 29, 2024, incident in Velika Brusnica.
The court determined that Milošević used a BMW to block the victim’s Fiat Punto and killed her with a single shot from an M70 automatic rifle through the windshield. The proceedings detailed a history of domestic violence, noting that the victim had previously fled to her parents with their two children to escape Milošević’s abusive behavior. Milošević was also convicted of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. Aleksandar Ostojić, 25, was acquitted of all charges related to aiding the murder.
