Criminal targeting of Colombian nationals in Peru

Overview

A series of criminal incidents in Peru have targeted Colombian nationals. In late July, two Colombian businessmen were drugged and robbed in Tacna after being lured to a clandestine cantina. One suspect, Luz Miranda Vega, was detained following a police raid, while another accomplice escaped.

By late August, the nature of the crimes escalated to kidnapping. In the El Agustino area, Peruvian authorities conducted an armed operation to rescue a Colombian businessman who had been kidnapped by the gang ‘Los Injertos del Mal’. The victim had reportedly been subjected to severe torture, including being struck with a hammer and a pistol, while kidnappers demanded a ransom of 100,000 soles. Six individuals were detained during the rescue operation.
