Cristopher Sánchez MLB wins leadership

Overview

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez moved into the lead for the most wins in Major League Baseball following an 18th victory against the New York Mets. This win allowed Sánchez to break a tie with Sonny Gray of the Boston Red Sox.

By the conclusion of the MLB regular season, Sánchez finished as the National League wins leader with 18 victories. He became the first Dominican left-handed pitcher to lead the National League in wins and the first Phillies pitcher to lead the league in this category since 2010. His season performance included 207 innings pitched, 231 strikeouts, and a 2.93 ERA, while also tying for the National League lead in quality starts with 22.

Sánchez’s achievement marks him as the sixth Dominican player in MLB history to lead the league in victories. Following the regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies entered the postseason, where they defeated the Atlanta Braves 4-3 in ten innings during the National League Wild Card Series. The victory, secured by a tenth-inning solo home run from Alec Bohm following earlier home runs by Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper, forced a decisive Game 3 in the series.
