Croatia support for Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Overview

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has initiated a series of efforts to support the Croat community in Bosnia and Herzegovina through financial aid and political advocacy.

In late August 2026, Plenković visited Mostar to oversee the signing of contracts totaling approximately 25.75 million euros. This funding is designated for roughly 600 projects spanning education, health, culture, and infrastructure, including the construction of the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) Mostar. During this visit, he also called for electoral reforms to ensure the legitimate representation of Croats in the country’s Presidency.

Following this, Plenković met with European Council President António Costa in Zagreb. While discussing EU defense and enlargement, Plenković reiterated the importance of the European path for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the necessity of equality among its three constitutional peoples. He further announced an increase in aid for the Croat community in Bosnia and Herzegovina to 36 million euros, noting that approximately 700 million euros has been invested in the region during his mandate.
