Croatian language and culture educational initiatives

Overview

Efforts to promote Croatian language and culture have emerged through both government initiatives in Croatia and academic programs in Chile.

The Croatian Ministry of Demography and Migration announced 700 scholarships for the 2026/27 academic year to support international students learning the language. These awards, which include monthly allowances and meal subsidies, target descendants of Croatians and their spouses across 24 countries, with significant participation expected from Argentina and Chile.

Concurrently, the University of Chile has launched new courses focused on Croatian language and culture. The program, ‘Introduction to Croatian Language: Approaches Through Culture,’ aims to explore the historical and artistic links between the two nations, acknowledging the approximately 200,000 people of Croatian descent living in Chile.
