Croatian Radiotelevision director selection dispute

The selection process for the Director General of Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) has faced political opposition in the Croatian Parliament. Initially, the Committee for Information, Informatization, and Media finalized a list of six eligible candidates, including Zlatan Avar, Gordana Grandov, Dražen Miočić, Fran Juraj Prižmić, Mario Raguž, and Tomislav Štengl.

Opposition members, specifically Urša Raukar-Gamulin of the Možemo! party, criticized the process, labeling certain candidacies as ‘completely unacceptable’ due to potential conflicts of interest and ties to the ruling HDZ party.

As the process continued, Raukar-Gamulin called for the cancellation of the current tender and a postponement of the election. She argued that the selection should be delayed until a new HRT Law is passed to implement protective mechanisms required by the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA). Raukar-Gamulin further alleged that the ruling HDZ party is attempting to maintain political control over the public broadcaster and suggested that delays in committee sessions may stem from internal party power struggles.
