Crocodile presence in Las Mojoneras

Overview

Following severe rainstorms and flooding in the Las Mojoneras delegation, municipal police rescued two motorcyclists who had been trapped by floodwaters and a large crocodile. The riders were lifted to safety using a crane platform, and the reptile, identified as specimen #149, was secured with the help of the Green Patrol and civil protection officials.

As the situation progressed, authorities launched an active operation involving Civil Protection, Firefighters, Lifeguards, Municipal Police, and Environmental Sustainability personnel to locate and capture two crocodiles. Despite multiple attempts, the reptiles have escaped on at least three occasions. Officials are working to relocate the animals to a different habitat to ensure public safety, particularly due to their proximity to an elementary school.
