Cross-border crime between Switzerland and France

Overview

Recent law enforcement actions have addressed cross-border thefts involving suspects traveling between Switzerland and France.

In late August, a high-speed pursuit began in Bienne, Switzerland, after a high-end vehicle was stolen from a garage. The pursuit continued onto the A16 motorway, where the driver performed dangerous maneuvers, including driving the wrong way through a tunnel, before crossing into France. Four French nationals were arrested in Wolschwiller; authorities found burglary tools in the vehicle, and the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Bern opened an investigation.

In early September, French police in Besançon arrested a 27-year-old man following an alert from Swiss authorities regarding a stolen bicycle valued at approximately 3,400 Swiss francs. The theft had occurred in Le Locle on August 31. Although the suspect denied involvement, he was taken into custody and is scheduled for a court appearance in November.
