Crude bomb explosions in Dhaka and surrounding areas
Overview
A series of crude bomb explosions, locally known as cocktail bombs, has caused significant unrest in the Dhaka region. On Friday, multiple blasts occurred across various districts in Dhaka, including Malibagh, Agargaon, Jatrabari, and Mohakhali. Notable incidents included an explosion in front of the state-run radio station, Bangladesh Betar, and an explosion near a police station in Jatrabari that resulted in at least one injury. In response, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police placed the capital on high alert, establishing over 200 checkpoints and increasing patrols.
Following these events, another cocktail explosion occurred on Saturday night at the Manikganj bus stand on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. While the blast caused panic among residents and passengers, no casualties were reported. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator, who is believed to have fled the scene on a motorcycle.
