Côte d’Ivoire infrastructure and energy development

Côte d’Ivoire is pursuing large-scale infrastructure and economic development through energy reforms and strategic international financing.

In the energy sector, the government is implementing the National Energy Compact and the Mission 300 initiative to achieve universal electricity access and increase the renewable energy share to 45 per cent by 2030. Recent developments include the operation of the Ferké Solar plant in Ferkessédougou, which utilizes over 73,000 photovoltaic panels to serve approximately 370,000 households. Despite these gains, the country faces an estimated US$6.56 billion investment gap to meet its 2030 targets.

Simultaneously, the nation is advancing urban infrastructure through the Abidjan Metro project, intended to modernize transport for over 540,000 daily passengers. To support such initiatives, the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Budget has set a target to reach a disbursement rate of at least 32 per cent for a World Bank-funded portfolio by June 2027. This portfolio encompasses 25 active operations across sectors including agriculture, digital technology, and urban development.
