Cuban government administrative reorganization

Overview

The Cuban government has implemented a major restructuring of its central state administration through Law 186, titled “On the Organization of the Central State Administration.” Approved by the National Assembly of People's Power, the law reduces the total number of ministries from 27 to 20.

Key changes include the creation of the Ministry of Information and Social Communication, which elevates the former Institute of Information and Social Communication to ministerial rank. This new ministry is tasked with directing the national communication system and managing advertising and sponsorship. Other reorganized or consolidated entities include the Ministries of Agriculture and Food, Commerce and Foreign Investment, Economy and Finance, and Industry and Construction.

The Central Bank of Cuba will remain a central state administration body. To facilitate the transition, the law allows up to one year for the redistribution of budgetary, material, and human resources, while ministers are required to present work schedules to Prime Minister Manuel Marrero within 30 days of the law's entry into force.
