Cultural and heritage festivals in Granada

Granada is hosting a series of cultural festivals focused on literature, heritage, and music. The ‘Letra de Naturaleza’ initiative, themed ‘Eco-crítica en los márgenes’, connects literature with sustainability through botanical and historical routes as part of the city’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2031. This is accompanied by the ‘Poesía en el Jardín’ cycle, which features poetic readings and live music at various heritage sites.

Simultaneously, the Neorama Festival, organized by Juventudes Musicales de España to mark its 75th anniversary, showcases young musical talent. The festival utilizes over 15 historical venues, including the Alhambra complex and the Generalife Theater, and includes professional workshops addressing topics such as equality, inclusion, and artificial intelligence.

The second edition of ‘Letra de Naturaleza’ is scheduled to take place from September 7 to 13. Maintaining the theme ‘Eco-crítica en los márgenes’, the program features literary, botanical, geological, and historical routes, alongside workshops, conferences, and ecopoetry recitals. Participants include philosopher and writer Jorge Riechmann and naturalist Joaquín Araújo, with activities centered in locations such as the Sacromonte and Albaicín neighborhoods. The event will also host the exhibition ‘La belleza poética de lo micro’ from September 8 to 17, which integrates scientific microphotography with poetry.

In early September, the Neorama festival debuts from September 3 to 5, acting as a platform for emerging musical talent across Spain. Organized by the Confederation of Youth Musical Societies of Spain (JME), the event features 40 concerts involving approximately 500 participants, including 325 musicians. Performances span genres from flamenco and jazz to electronic and indie, held at venues such as the Generalife Theatre and the Manuel de Falla Auditorium. Andalusian Culture Minister Patricia del Pozo described the festival as a “springboard towards their professionalization.”
