Cultural and historical festivals in Portugal

Overview

Cultural and religious festivals have been held in the Portuguese municipality of Castro Marim. In mid-August, the Festas em Honra de Nossa Senhora dos Mártires drew thousands of attendees for a program of religious observances, such as a candle procession, alongside musical performances and a craft fair.

By early September, the focus shifted toward historical reenactment. The 27th edition of Medieval Days in Castro Marim, held at the Castle of Castro Marim and the Fort of San Sebastián, saw an increase in visitors and included an opening ceremony attended by the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport. Similar medieval-themed events were also reported in Valença, where the Fortress hosted reenactments of 16th-century life.
