Cultural and musical festivals in Nicaragua
Overview
Nicaragua has held several large-scale cultural events aimed at promoting national identity and international exchange.
In early August, Managua hosted the 15th International Festival of Arts, Cultures, and Gastronomy. Organized by the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR), the event brought together representatives from over 40 countries to showcase music, traditional dance, crafts, and culinary offerings. Camila Ortega, national coordinator of the National Commission of Creative and Orange Economy, noted the festival’s role in “strengthening brotherhood between nations.”
Later in the month, the country hosted two distinct musical celebrations. In Ciudad Sandino, the Electronic Music Festival 2026 fused modern electronic production with traditional folkloric rhythms like ‘son nica’ and ‘Palo de Mayo.’ Concurrently, the first ‘Son Nica’ Marimba Festival was held in Matagalpa, featuring ten ensembles performing traditional rhythms such as polkas and mazurcas to preserve musical heritage.
