Cultural and opera events in Tijuana

Cultural programming in Tijuana has featured diverse musical performances throughout late 2026. In early October, the Teatro de la Casa de la Cultura hosted ‘Poéticas del Arrabal: Ópera y tango Fronteras y desbordes’, a fusion concert dedicated to the work of Astor Piazzolla. This event, organized by Ópera de Tijuana, the Secretaría de Cultura de Tijuana, and Ópera Explícita, featured vocalists Gabriela Bojórquez and Martín de León alongside the Camarada Tango Quartet.

Following this, the Ópera de Tijuana Foundation expanded its ‘Festival Ópera en la Calle 2026’ to Plaza Paseo del Parque, located in the third stage of the Tijuana River. Scheduled for October 25, this free event is part of the ‘Ópera en las Plazas Públicas’ program, which seeks to bring performing arts to urban spaces and developing economic zones.

The festival included the Tijuana Opera Choir directed by Salvador Castro, the Orquesta de la Zona Este led by Juan de Dios Ruvalcaba—a group composed of children and young beginners—the tenor trio I TRE, and actor Carlos Puentes. Production director Mario Montenegro stated the festival’s goal is to “build community and connect artists with the public.” General director Márcia Teresa Riqué noted the foundation has worked for 26 years to cultivate audiences for opera and concert music.
