Cultural and tourism activities in Catamarca

The Fiesta del Poncho, a major cultural and tourist event in Catamarca, Argentina, was recently recognized at the fourth Federal Tourism Industry Awards (FED). The festival was honored for its integration of gastronomy, music, and traditional crafts, while Roberto Brunello received a Career Achievement Award in Business Leadership.

Building on this cultural momentum, the province has commenced the El Ponchito youth arts festival, which runs from October 6 to October 11 at the Predio Ferial. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport, the event serves as a platform for students from academies, workshops, and schools to showcase their year-long training through music, singing, and dance.

The festival features activities in two daily shifts, from 10:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 21:00. The opening program includes the Orquesta Infantil y Juvenil de Choya, alongside various dance academies and musical groups such as SuperArte and Árabe Show Dance. To accommodate those unable to attend in person, the performances are being broadcast live via YouTube channels belonging to Catamarca Radio and Television and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport.

As the festival continues, it highlights diverse performances, including folklore ballets such as Huayra Tusuy and Mishquila Pacha, and musical acts like the San Jorge Youth Orchestra. The event is characterized by significant community and family involvement, with relatives supporting young performers through months of preparation, including sewing costumes and attending rehearsals.
