Cultural festivities in Veracruz

The state of Veracruz is hosting various cultural and festive events in September 2026. The government has organized a patriotic program for the month, featuring musical performances, historical lectures, and a ‘Night of Museums’ to promote local heritage.

Key celebrations include the ‘Grito de Independencia’ ceremony on September 15, the commemoration of the ‘Niños Héroes’ on September 13, and a Civic-Military Parade on September 16. Additionally, the Academia de Belleza Reflejos will hold a carnival-themed fashion show on September 4, showcasing costumes inspired by the carnivals of Venice, Brazil, and Veracruz.

Following the September festivities, the XXX Afro-Caribbean International Festival launched on October 2, with inaugural ceremonies held in Yanga. Running through October 4, the festival includes activities in Yanga, Cosamaloapan, and the port of Veracruz. Governor Rocío Nahle García emphasized the importance of recognizing African and indigenous roots as vital components of community identity. The program features musical performances, Afro-Mexican dance, academic conferences, and workshops on traditional crafts and gastronomy. During this edition, Dr. Sagrario del Carmen Cruz Carretero will receive the Gonzalo Aguirre Beltrán 2026 medal.

Looking ahead to mid-October, the XXIX Huasteca Festival is scheduled to take place in Álamo from October 15 to 18, with preparatory activities in Tuxpan and Poza Rica. This festival will highlight the cultural wealth of the Huasteca region, specifically focusing on the role of women in preserving indigenous languages, traditional medicine, and music. Additionally, preparations for future events are underway, including the election of José Luis Covarrubias González as the virtual king for the 2027 Veracruz Carnival.
