Cultural heritage celebrations in Venezuela

Overview

In Monagas, Venezuela, educational institutions and community members gathered at the Bolivariana University of Venezuela in Maturín to celebrate National Tequeño Day and International Chef Day. The event featured more than 600 tequeños to promote local culinary development and honor the snack as a symbol of national identity.

In Caracas, traditional Burriquitas and Pollinos dances were celebrated following their official recognition as City Cultural Heritage by the Libertador Bolivarian Municipality and the Government of Caracas. The festivities included a parade involving cultural schools and practitioners from 22 parishes, marking the beginning of the Christmas season.

In Maracaibo, a parade was held in the historic center to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Burriquitas tradition being declared National Cultural Heritage. Delegations from six municipalities participated, and local representatives indicated that efforts are being made to seek UNESCO recognition for the tradition as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
