Cultural heritage dispute in Baošići, Montenegro
Overview
The Montenegrin Directorate for Protection of Cultural Heritage issued a €5,000 fine to the developer Carine DOO Podgorica for failing to comply with orders to restore a heritage site in Baošići, Herceg Novi.
The developer was required to remove an embankment and new structures covering approximately 12,500 square meters and restore a partially demolished Austro-Hungarian manor within the UNESCO-listed Kotor historic area. Following the expiration of a two-month deadline, authorities indicated that if the company continues to refuse compliance, the state may appoint another party to perform the remediation and charge all associated costs to the company.
