Cultural heritage preservation and exhibitions in Brazil

Cultural institutions in Brazil are conducting various initiatives to preserve and celebrate national heritage. In late August, Unilavras hosted a discussion titled “Entre Memórias e Saberes: Celebrando o Patrimônio Cultural” to address the challenges of reconciling historical preservation with modern requirements like safety and accessibility. Additionally, the State Cultural Heritage System (SISEP) organized the 1st Meeting of the Intangible Heritage Thematic Network in São Paulo to foster collaboration among researchers and public managers.

Following these discussions, several exhibitions opened to the public. The Galeria de Vidro launched “Fragmentos e Cicatrizes da Arquitetura Urbana,” an exploration of urban spaces and memory through architectural landscapes. Simultaneously, the Municipal Historical Archive Araci Borges Dias Martins inaugurated an exhibition marking the 65th anniversary of the Guarulhos Municipal Conservatory of Arts, utilizing historical documents and audiovisual records to document the institution’s history in musical education.

Recent efforts have shifted toward digital management and specialized conservation training. The Museu do Ipiranga is scheduled to host a symposium on October 14, 2026, titled ‘Acervos Digitais: Gestão, Preservação e Difusão’, which will address the preservation of born-digital collections and public access platforms. This coincides with the development of the Center for Digitization and Intelligent Treatment of Collections (CDTIC) at the Museu Paulista, a project supported by FAPESP. Furthermore, the ABGC is providing a hybrid extension module on innovation in conservation and restoration, featuring a study tour at the Atelier Raul Carvalho to cover topics such as the ethics of conservation science and the management of contaminated collections.
