Cybersecurity threat trends in Lithuania and Czechia

Overview

Cybersecurity agencies in Lithuania and the Czech Republic have reported evolving patterns in digital threats. In Lithuania, the National Cyber Security Centre (NKSC) noted a shift in the threat landscape during 2026. While fraud was the primary threat in 2025, information gathering attacks became the most frequent incident type in the first nine months of 2026, with 499 recorded cases. NKSC Director Antanas Aleknavičius stated that a decrease in total registered incidents does not indicate lower threat levels, as criminals are evolving their methods to identify vulnerabilities for future attacks.

By late 2026, reports indicated that while Lithuania saw a 25 percent decrease in registered incidents compared to the previous year, social engineering accounted for over 54 percent of those cases. Experts cautioned that official statistics might underrepresent the actual scale of threats due to unreported breaches. Simultaneously, the Czech Republic’s National Cyber and Information Security Agency (NÚKIB) reported a rise in activity, with September seeing 26 incidents—one of the highest monthly totals in the past year—primarily targeting schools and public administration through unauthorized access to accounts and cloud services.
