Cyprus and Greece emergency response exercises
Overview
In mid-October 2026, Cyprus and Greece engaged in several large-scale emergency response and crisis management exercises. In Cyprus, the police scheduled the ‘CHRYSO 2026’ counter-terrorism drill at the Central Bank to test coordination between police, ambulance, and fire services. Concurrently, Greece and Cyprus collaborated on the ‘SYNASPIS 2026’ exercise in Andros, Greece, simulating a mass casualty tourist bus accident to test medical interoperability between Greek and Cypriot ambulance services.
Following these regional exercises, the Cyprus Fire Service and the State Health Services Organisation conducted a joint fire extinguishing and rescue drill at the Nicosia General Hospital on October 22, 2026. This simulation focused on a fire in the hospital’s Orthopedic Department, testing the coordination between hospital staff, fire teams, the Ambulance Service, and the Cyprus Police.
