Cyprus consumer product safety and regulation

Overview

The Cypriot government has implemented new measures to enhance consumer safety and product regulation. On September 18, the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry enacted a decree requiring fire extinguishers and traffic safety sets to meet specific compliance standards, such as CE marking or TSE certification, to be sold in the market.

Following these regulatory updates, the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service identified 97 dangerous products via the Safety Gate system. These products, originally detected in other European Union member states, have been distributed among various government departments—including Electromechanical Services, Labour Inspection, and Road Transport—for localized inspections. Authorities have advised consumers to stop using these flagged items and return them to their points of purchase.
