Czech Republic gambling regulation and addiction trends

The Czech Republic has implemented new measures to address gambling and addiction. A new unified social benefit, known as ‘superdávka’, now automatically enrolls livelihood benefit recipients and their household members into a national gambling-exclusion register. This rule bars these individuals from all legal casino, betting, and online gambling activities for the duration of their benefits. Following this rule change, the number of people on the exclusion register rose from 236,228 in July to 299,362 in August.

Broader economic data indicates that Czech players lost 68 billion CZK to gambling in 2025, a 7% increase from the previous year, with online gambling accounting for 60% of operator revenue. While problematic gambling among adults remains stable, authorities have noted a concerning upward trend in addiction among adolescents.

To address these issues, the Government Council for the Coordination of Addiction Policy has approved 415 million CZK to fund addiction services for 2027. These funds, managed by the Ministry of Health, are intended to support prevention, treatment, and social risk reduction services.
