Czech Republic transport infrastructure disruptions

Overview

The Czech Republic is experiencing significant transport disruptions due to various infrastructure projects and maintenance works.

In Brno, the closure of the Pisárek and Hlinky tunnels for technological upgrades has caused major delays for public transit. To mitigate delays that previously reached 40 minutes, the Brno Public Transport Company (DPMB) has implemented new bus lanes on Antonína Procházky street and a coordinating lane on Petra Křivky street to assist movement toward the Bohunice Hospital terminal. Recent interventions, including police traffic management, have reportedly reduced peak-hour delays to approximately 20 minutes.

Starting October 21, adjusted timetables will take effect to increase reliability by extending recovery times at terminal stations, though this may slightly reduce the total number of connections. A new supplementary tram line, P6, will also operate between Mendlovo náměstí and Bohunice Hospital during weekday peak hours to provide an alternative to congested trolleybus and bus routes, specifically affecting lines 25, 26, 37, 52, E56, and 68.

In Olomouc, unexpected road closures in the Hejčín district for cable installation caused morning congestion for commuters.

Regional rail services are also affected, with an ongoing railway exclusion in the Vyškov region requiring replacement bus services between Brno, Vyškov, Nezamyslice, and Přerov until November 5. Additionally, residents in Křižanov have organized a petition against a planned change to the R9 fast train schedule that would eliminate a local stop in December.
