Czech Republic truck toll rate proposal

Overview

The Czech Ministry of Transport has proposed increasing toll rates for heavy goods vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes, effective July 2027. The initiative seeks to align Czech costs with neighboring European nations to mitigate excessive international transit traffic.

For trucks over 12 tonnes, highway rates are projected to rise by approximately 18.5 percent, while rates on first-class roads could increase by 26.6 percent. Transport Minister Ivan Bednárik noted that the measure addresses a 15 percent rise in truck traffic on major transit highways since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ministry expects the hike to generate an additional 1.6 billion CZK in 2027, with potential annual increases of 4 billion CZK in following years to fund transport infrastructure. While economists suggest transport companies might pass costs to consumers, they anticipate the impact on inflation will be negligible compared to fuel costs. The proposed changes will not affect buses.
