Dacia vehicle technology and model developments
Overview
Dacia vehicle developments have recently focused on powertrain expansion and specialized utility configurations.
Dacia introduced a new Hybrid 150 4x4 system designed for the Duster SUV and the Bigster crossover. This system utilizes a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine running on a Miller cycle, paired with a rear-mounted electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The electric motor features its own two-speed gearbox and can be disengaged to improve efficiency. The technology provides five driving modes—Auto, Eco, Snow, Mud/Sand, and Lock—and allows for electric-only operation for up to 60% of city driving, with a combined range of up to 1,500 km.
In the Czech market, the Duster starts at 645,900 CZK and the Bigster at 699,900 CZK, while UK on-road prices are £26,845 and £29,265, respectively. This launch expands the electrified lineup alongside the existing LPG-compatible Hybrid-G 150 4x4.
Long-term evaluations of Dacia hybrid models have indicated high mechanical durability. Reports on a Duster Hybrid 140 with 45,000 km driven over two years showed no signs of corrosion and maintained ideal brake condition. While the 1.2 kWh traction battery experienced a 16% capacity loss, the manufacturer noted this is within specifications and the resulting 9% power output drop does not impact daily performance.
In a separate development, the coachbuilder Romturingia unveiled the third generation of the Dacia Duster Pick-up. Built on the CMF-B platform, this version is offered in both single-cab and double-cab configurations. The project, which involves cooperation between Romturingia, Dacia, and Renault Technologie Roumanie, provides varying payload and cargo capacities for utility use.
