Dacoity and robbery incidents in Ganjam, Odisha

Overview

Law enforcement in Odisha’s Ganjam district has engaged in operations against criminal elements involved in robbery and dacoity.

In late July, police in the Purushottampur area encountered a wanted dacoity suspect, Ghanashyam Behera, who reportedly used a crude bomb and opened fire while attempting to flee. The suspect was injured by police fire and taken for medical treatment, while an associate remained at large.

By mid-August, Golanthara Police dismantled an organized inter-state dacoity gang operating between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The group allegedly used fraudulent land and gold deals to lure victims. Following a daylight robbery, authorities arrested four individuals and recovered cash, mobile phones, fake gold, and a vehicle. Two additional gang members are still being sought.
