Daegu innovation awards

Overview

In early July 2026 the Daegu Regional University Alliance held a startup competition showcasing university projects in healthcare, fire‑fighting and electric vehicles. Days later the city launched the Daegu‑Gyeongbuk SME Contest, honoring 46 small‑and medium‑size firms and announcing a mayoral plan to streamline regulations and set up a rapid‑response council.

On 6 July the Daegu University Special Education and Rehabilitation Science Institute won the Excellent Award in the social‑science category of the 2026 Humanities & Social Sciences People‑Centric Research Achievement Contest for its AIoT‑based 24‑hour care system that integrates the B‑Mon behavior‑recognition camera with the DACARE IoT platform. The system, trained on tens of thousands of videos, lowered challenging behaviors and improved communication, earning citation among the Ministry of Education’s “Top 50 Achievements,” inclusion in a K‑MOOC, provincial adoption, patents and inter‑agency agreements. Institute director Professor Park Kyung‑ok was thereafter appointed president of the Korean Special Education Society.

Daegu Health University received the highest S grade in two national assessments, recognizing excellence in education innovation and digital transformation.

On 29 July, students from Youngnam Institute of Technology earned the Korean Scholarship Foundation President’s Award at the Daegu City public‑data and AI startup competition for “Welfare Assistant‑Smart,” an AI co‑pilot platform that links social workers with digitally vulnerable groups and streamlines welfare administration. The same day Daegu University celebrated the graduation of its AI Bootcamp summer program, where participants completed cloud‑computing training, obtained Naver Cloud Platform certification and top graduates were offered field‑practice placements; the bootcamp is backed by the Ministry of Education, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology and Gyeongsangbuk‑do.
