Daegu student education and safety initiatives
Overview
In Daegu, educational initiatives for elementary students have transitioned from summer enrichment programs to safety and crime prevention measures for the upcoming semester.
During the summer break, more than 230 elementary schools implemented the ‘Nulbom School’ initiative. This program offered specialized activities including AI and digital literacy, financial education, and nature-based learning to keep students engaged and supervised during the heatwave.
As the second semester approaches, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, in partnership with the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency, is shifting focus toward student safety. This new phase targets emerging youth crimes such as cyber gambling, deepfake-related cyber violence, voice phishing, and ‘Yacha-rule’ physical violence. The strategy combines educational guidance and psychological support from the education office with increased police patrols and guidance from School Police Officers.
