Daewoong Pharmaceutical expansion in Indonesia
Overview
Daewoong Pharmaceutical is expanding its presence in the Indonesian market by aligning with upcoming mandatory Halal certification regulations. To facilitate this, the company has engaged with the Indonesia Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) and the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) to discuss import requirements and labeling. The South Korean government is also supporting these efforts by seeking mutual recognition of Halal certificates.
As part of a long-term localization strategy, Daewoong is constructing a smart factory in Cikarang, aimed at achieving GMP approval by July 2027 to serve the ASEAN Halal market.
Regulatory cooperation has since progressed to include high-level visits from BPOM officials to Daewoong’s Magok R&D Center. These discussions have focused on strengthening communication regarding licensing, clinical trials, and product development, while highlighting the company’s ongoing collaborations with Indonesian research institutions in biotechnology and cell therapy.
