Dan Markel murder docuseries release

Hulu and Disney+ are scheduled to release a four-part true-crime docuseries titled ‘Welcome to the Family: The Murder of Dan Markel’ on September 1, 2026. Directed by Sebastian Smith, the series examines the 2014 murder-for-hire killing of Florida State University law professor Dan Markel in Tallahassee.

The documentary explores how the plot originated from a contentious divorce and custody dispute involving Markel and his former wife, Wendi Adelson. Investigations eventually linked the crime to Markel’s former in-laws, Charlie and Donna Adelson.

The series utilizes interviews with law enforcement, neighbors, and friends to reconstruct the events and the decade-long legal process. Featured participants include FBI agent Pat Sanford and Rob Adelson, the eldest son of the Adelson family, who testified against his mother during her trial.

To date, five individuals have been convicted in connection with the murder: Donna Adelson, Charlie Adelson, Sigfredo Garcia, Katherine Magbanua, and Luis Rivera. While prosecutors described Wendi Adelson as an ‘unindicted co-conspirator,’ she has not been charged and has denied involvement.
