Danish military drone incident reporting errors
Overview
The Danish military has admitted to errors in its reporting regarding unidentified drone incursions that occurred in the autumn of 2025. These incidents involved drones flying over civilian and military air bases, including the Skrydstrup air base used for Ukrainian F-16 pilot training.
Initial reports suggested that soldiers at the Borris shooting range fired 43 shots at suspected drones only after a Norwegian passenger plane had passed the area. However, revised timelines indicate the gunfire occurred earlier than previously stated, meaning the aircraft may have been in the vicinity of the shots.
Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus has rejected allegations of a cover-up, maintaining that soldiers were targeting objects believed to be hostile drones and that there was no risk to the aircraft. Despite these assurances, political opposition has criticized the government for the delay in providing accurate information. In response to these security challenges, Denmark is working to strengthen its drone detection and anti-drone capabilities.
