Data center development in Hauts-de-France

Overview

Large-scale data center development projects are being proposed across the Hauts-de-France region, specifically in the Arras and Compiègne areas. In the Arras agglomeration, the firm Goodman is studying a campus of four data centers in Brebières-Corbehem, which would necessitate a 225,000-volt substation by RTE. In the Compiègne area, developer SCI Alyssa is planning a facility at the Lachelle ZAC with a potential 300-megawatt capacity, aimed at attracting international hyperscalers.

As these projects progress, local opposition has emerged regarding the Rantigny site in Oise. Residents and officials have raised concerns over noise, heat, high electricity consumption, and environmental impacts. Consequently, the prefecture has extended the public environmental inquiry to allow for the review of updated studies. While the Rantigny project undergoes consultation, the proposed Lachelle project has not yet entered an official public inquiry phase.
