Dauphin Regional Health Centre flood recovery

Overview

Following significant flooding in late June and early July, the emergency department at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre in Manitoba has begun reopening to provide 24/7 services. The facility is currently utilizing temporary power, water, and mechanical infrastructure to support operations while full restoration of the building continues.

While the return of emergency care is considered a major milestone, many specialized services remain unavailable at the site due to damage to critical systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and elevators. Services including chemotherapy, dialysis, surgery, endoscopy, and labour and delivery continue to be provided at other regional facilities.

The Manitoba Nurses Union has characterized the reopening as “premature,” citing concerns over the temporary infrastructure, such as the use of external trailers for bathrooms. Shared Health officials have maintained that the immediate priority was ensuring access to life-saving emergency care to avoid long-distance transport for patients.
