Deaths of prominent Turkish musicians
Overview
The Turkish music community is mourning the loss of several prominent artists who passed away within a single week in October 2026.
Nevzat Doğansoy, known professionally as Nev, died at age 57 at Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital following a period of intensive care for liver disease and multiple organ failure. His manager, İlker Ercan, noted that the singer’s health had declined significantly following the loss of his mother two years ago. Doğansoy had been hospitalized since September 3, 2026, after losing consciousness, and had undergone intubation during his treatment.
A funeral service for Doğansoy was held at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology Mosque in Üsküdar, attended by family, friends, and music industry figures, including author Sunay Akın and AK Party Istanbul Deputy Süleyman Soylu. In a symbolic gesture, a Galatasaray football jersey was placed on his coffin. He was laid to rest in Karacaahmet Cemetery. Before his death, Doğansoy, who rose to prominence with his 2001 album ‘Her Şeye Rağmen’, had been working on a sea-themed album, including an unfinished composition based on the poem ‘Çakıl’ by Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu.
Other notable losses include Alpay Nazikioğlu, a singer and songwriter who died at age 91 in Antalya, and Soner Olgun, a 67-year-old Turkish Folk Music artist who passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
