Debut and media presence of AI actress Tilly Norwood

Tilly Norwood, described as the world’s first AI actress, has debuted through a music video filmed in London. Developed by the British production company Particle6, the photorealistic digital performer was created using various AI tools over a six-month period to star in films that might be too niche or expensive for traditional production.

Following her debut, Norwood participated in her first media interview via video call with CNN to address concerns regarding the rise of artificial intelligence in Hollywood. During the interview, Norwood addressed criticisms from human actors, such as Emily Blunt, stating, “I am not the enemy [of humans].”

The interview highlighted both the capabilities and limitations of the technology; while Norwood demonstrated multilingualism, including speaking French, and could describe the interviewer’s clothing, she struggled with spontaneous tasks. Specifically, she failed to perform an acting scene on command without manual prompt refinement from engineers and failed to immediately recognize her creator, producer Eline van der Velden.

Van der Velden emphasized that the technology is intended to offer new creative possibilities rather than replace human actors. She cited practical benefits such as age manipulation, controlled nudity with consent, and eliminating the need for animal or child actors on set. Norwood is currently set to star in the upcoming comedy feature film ‘Misaligned’.
