Declassified U.S. government and Pentagon documents released in August 2026 have brought renewed attention to a 1963 report of an unidentified aerial phenomenon in Conde, Bahia, Brazil.

According to the records, a Radio Tupi broadcast on November 8, 1963, described a “great metallic sphere” that allegedly crashed into the town, creating a four-meter crater. The report claimed the object featured glass-covered openings and contained a human-like occupant wearing heavy clothing with indecipherable markings.

The incident prompted investigations involving the CIA, the State Department, the Department of Defense, and NASA. However, diplomatic communications from the U.S. Embassy in Rio de Janeiro and the consulate in Salvador concluded that the account was fabricated. Investigators found no evidence of a crash, no recovered aircraft, and no witnesses to the event. Brazilian authorities, including the Ministry of Aeronautics, also denied the existence of the object, leading officials to dismiss the episode as a hoax.
