Deep thermal pool development in Montegrotto Terme

The Y-40 The Deep Joy facility in Montegrotto Terme, Italy, currently holds the Guinness World Record for the deepest thermal pool, reaching a depth of 42.15 meters. The pool utilizes authentic salt-bromo-iodic thermal water from the Euganean thermal district, maintaining temperatures between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius. It features an artificial cave system of approximately 60 meters to simulate natural diving conditions.

While other facilities, such as Deep Dive Dubai, reach greater absolute depths, Y-40 remains unique due to its use of natural thermal water. The facility serves as a specialized center for divers and freedivers, providing intermediate platforms for exploration.

To expand this underwater center, a new project named PHI12 is undergoing technical testing. Designed by architect Emanuele Boaretto, PHI12 is intended to be the deepest thermal pool in the world with a depth of 44 meters and a diameter of 12 meters. Current testing involves introducing water to monitor system integrity, pressure, and pump controls to ensure safety and technical specifications are met before public opening.
