Demographic and electoral developments in Paraná

The state of Paraná is undergoing significant demographic and political developments. Census data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) indicates a reversal in migration trends, with a net influx of 327,943 residents from other Brazilian states between 2010 and 2022. This growth is concentrated in urban centers such as Curitiba, Maringá, Londrina, Foz do Iguaçu, and Cascavel. In Cascavel specifically, population growth is projected to potentially make it the state’s fourth largest city by 2050.

This demographic expansion has contributed to a growing electorate, with Paraná reaching 8.6 million eligible voters for the 2026 elections. The voter population is largely concentrated in major cities, which account for approximately 30.3% of the total electorate. To manage the upcoming elections, the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) plans to deploy over 30,000 electronic voting machines. Meanwhile, polling organizations have begun registering surveys to analyze voter preferences regarding presidential, state, and Senate races.
