Denuvo legal action against software cracker

Overview

Denuvo, an Austrian anti-piracy technology provider, has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against an anonymous cracker known as ‘voices38’. The company alleges the defendant bypassed its anti-tamper protections for at least 26 video games, including titles such as ‘Hogwarts Legacy’, ‘Black Myth: Wukong’, ‘Resident Evil Requiem’, and ‘Doom: The Dark Ages’.

Because Denuvo does not own the copyrights to the games, the legal action utilizes the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to target the circumvention of digital locks. Denuvo is seeking financial damages and a permanent injunction to prevent the removal of its software from current and future titles.

The lawsuit includes digital identifiers from platforms such as Discord, Reddit, and Steam. Denuvo intends to use the proceedings to subpoena these service providers to uncover the defendant’s real-world identity. The individual known as ‘voices38’ has reportedly dismissed the legal action on Reddit, stating that their work will continue.
