Expansion of DesTeenazione youth inclusion project in Italy

Overview

The DesTeenazione project, a national Italian initiative funded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies alongside European funds (FSE+ and FESR), is expanding its efforts to support social inclusion and autonomy for youth aged 11 to 21.

In Bari, Deputy Minister of Labour Maria Teresa Bellucci recently visited the 3.3 million euro multifunctional center, which serves Bari and 91 other municipalities to prevent school dropout. In Caltanissetta, the project promoted community reflection through a ‘Silent Book Party’ at the Luciano Scarabelli library. Recent expansions include the opening of a multifunctional space in Piazza Duomo, Imperia, on September 14, and open days in Termoli to involve youth in shaping 2026/2027 activities.

In the Valdarno aretino region, the project has entered an operational phase led by the Municipality of San Giovanni Valdarno. An eight-person educator team is currently conducting outreach and managing the GET UP program to co-design a future teen hub at via Mannozzi 24, with renovations expected to conclude by February 2027.

Further expansion continues in Reggio Calabria, offering theater and study spaces, and in Rieti, where specialized training in Artificial Intelligence and digital ethics has been launched. In Pescara, a new multifunctional center was inaugurated in a former courthouse in Piazza Alessandrini. This facility, representing an investment of approximately 3.44 million euros, is managed by eleven third-sector entities and staffed by 27 professionals to provide psychological support, vocational guidance, and socio-educational workshops.
