Pourrain has since provided harrowing details regarding his treatment while in custody, describing his 22-day immigration detention as “torture” and “pure terror.” He reported being handcuffed at both his hands and ankles and transported in an unmarked van. He further alleged he was denied basic necessities, including going three days without food or water and being unable to shower, characterizing the conditions as “inhumane.”

While Pourrain maintains he has no criminal record, pays taxes, and holds a valid work permit and driver’s license, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated he exceeded his legal period of stay. According to DHS, Pourrain entered the U.S. in November 2019 with a six-month authorization but remained past May 11, 2020. His defense continues to argue that his detention stems from a “gray area of immigration law” regarding incomplete paperwork during his permanent residency process. He remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
